Meet Angélica

As a young girl growing up in Eagle Pass, Angélica learned that nothing good happens without hard work and ganas — grit. Her father was a baker and owned his small business; her mother, had a strong desire to help others so when Angélica was in Elementary school, she worked her way through school to become an LVN (licensed vocational nurse). She wanted to make life better for her family and she knew that education was key. That’s what she taught Angélica and her brother, Luis.

Angélica became the first in her family to get a four-year degree. During her time at the University of Texas at Austin, Angélica studied Spanish Literature and History. Outside the classroom, she co-founded HEROE (Helping Everyone Reach Opportunity and Education) with fellow students, including Javier who she would later marry. HEROE was a student organization dedicated to mentoring and tutoring high school students and helping them create a better future for themselves by raising scholarships for higher education, informing them about the application and financial aid process or educating them regarding military and vocational opportunities. Angélica, Javier, and their fellow classmates started by helping high school students in low-income schools in the Austin area. The organization grew from four co-founders to over 400 volunteers in the first semester.

After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, Angélica worked as a banker and financial advisor before returning to school to fulfill her life-long dream of advocating for families and workers as an attorney.

She graduated at the top of her class at St. Mary’s University School of Law, where she repeatedly made the dean’s list.  Angélica was licensed by the State Bar of Texas in 2010 and currently practices in the areas of Civil and Family Law. Her husband, Javier Espinoza is also a practicing attorney, and they have three children, Luis Javier, Dulce, and Yessica.

As an attorney, Angélica represented hundreds of mothers, fathers, and children in the courtroom in family law matters.  She also gave a voice to those who felt they had none in other civil litigation matters too. Angélica understood the importance of a trial by jury and the voice of the individual to his/her peers. It is this ideology that makes our community strong.  When she learned that Judge Larry Noll was retiring after many years of service, Angélica and her family decided it was her turn to step up and serve our community in elected office. Now as the Judge of the 408th District Court, she has spent the last 4 years fulfilling the promise of her campaign.

She has been committed to delivering blind justice, being a servant leader, and looking out for families at their lowest points. Angélica Jiménez is running for re-election because she wants to continue helping families in their most difficult times. She believes we all share a responsibility to take care of our children.
